I liked this series when I first started it, but then I bought the box set for books 3.5-6 and I was pretty disappointed. I skipped 7 and 8 and I only read this one because I had purchased it a year ago when it was on sale.The positive parts of this book were about the case, particularly when an officer is killed in the line of duty, it was sad and I thought it was handled well. The other positive thing is that Scotty wasn't in it too much (still hate that kid).As the series has gone on, Nick just seems to be more of a minor character. His only role is to have sex with Sam and tell her how amazing she is all the time. What's the point of making him VP if it's not going to be a significant storyline? For some reason he's super popular with voters, but his political views are pretty much nonexistent in the books.Sam has become such a ridiculous character, I don't even know where to start. Perhaps with the fact that the Second Lady would never be a police lieutenant? Or the fact that she assaults a fellow officer (because he made a mean comment) and there are no consequences for that? Or how about tackling a suspect in the crowd during the inauguration? At least make her the tiniest bit realistic!
